Rampant by Diana Peterfreund #6

I loved this book.

Rampant is well written and is about a girl who thinks her mom is crazy. Supposedly Astrid's family are Unicorn Hunters but they only have the power to hunt and catch unicorns if they are still virgins. Unicorns are actually carnivorous, man-eating, poisonous creatures who are attracted to Hunters. When Astrid's mom finds out that hunters are being called to Rome because of Unicorn sightings she sends Astrid to become a hunter.

Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner

I thought this was a very boring book that was fast and didn't have a lot of details in it.

This book takes place after a huge war between the Faerie's and the Humans in the United States. Big cities are now destroyed. It's about a girl who lives in a town that is very strict and unfriendly. They believe that magic is evil and will kill anyone. If a child is born with white hair they are thrown out into the wild to die. This is what happened to the main character's baby sister. Soon after her mother leaves and she is stuck with her father who is a very vicious man who beats her if she does something wrong. She finds out that she herself has magic so she runs away.

Burned by Ellen Hopkins #4

I thought that this book was very very good. I love that it is written in poem form. I also love that all her books set place in Nevada.

Genre: Romance, Troubled Teen, Family, Young Adult

Burned is about a girl who is brought up in a very strict Mormon family. Her father is an alcoholic though and beats his wife. When she gets in trouble she is sent to Ely (El-ee) County in Nevada to live with her aunt.

Very surprising ending. I liked the book until the ending.

Daughters of the Moon: The Lost One by Lynne Ewing

This is the second book of the year.

This is a series that I have already read but it's been approximately 1 1/2 years since I've read it. The Lost One is book 6.

The series is about four girls who all have a unique power. They find out that they are Goddesses of the Moon "sent to destroy an ancient evil", the Atrox and his followers.

Book Six introduces a new character Tianna More who wakes up in an empty apartment with no memory of who she is. Her only clue is a note she found in her boot written to the police saying that people are trying to kill her and if they found this note that she was dead.

This is a very good series and I've liked it for a very long time.

The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner

This was the first book I started reading in 2010 and the first book I finished in this new year.

First of all I loved this book. This book is definitely on my favorite book list. It is a historical fiction novel but it's not just a historical fiction novel it also has magic in it. I would recommend this book to someone who doesn't like historical fiction but likes magic and romance. This is also a young adult book.

This book takes place during the French Revolution. This book is about a boy named Yann who is a ventriloquist, can hear people's thoughts, and sometimes see the future. He works for a magician with his guardian Tetu. When they are called to perform a magic show at the Marquis de Villeduval's elaborate house where Yann finds the Marquis' daughter Sido who is hated by her father. Yann finds out that one of the Marquis' guests is a very dangerous man, Count Kalliovski.

And I won't give away anymore. :)

I rate this book 4.5/5

New Year

So this is a new year 2010 (Yeah I know the first month is almost over but it's still the beginning). You know how new years start, resolutions. Now I know that I won't be able to keep a true resolution, like keep my room clean etc. So I took a leaf out of Julie Powell's book but instead of making all the recipes in Julia Child's book. Great movie by-the-way (haven't read the books), but I don't even like cooking. So my new year's resolution is to read 100 books this year. That means 8-9 books a month. Now I've already started but maybe this will make me keep up with reading and finishing my goal. This is going to be hard because I am still in school but I will try my hardest.

The type of books I am going to read are going to be fiction. I won't count books on tape or school books (unless fiction), nonfiction, books I started to read in 2009 and didn't finish, or auto/biographies. Most of the books I will be reading are young adult books because I love them and also books that I have meant to read or want to reread.

I will post the books I have already read and my thoughts on them soon.

Each time I finish a book I will review it in a post.
